The first thing you notice is the weight of the round. The AK fires 7.62×39mm, a noticeably heavier bullet than the 5.56 NATO in an M4, and every shot delivers a deep, percussive thump you feel in your shoulder and chest. In full-auto, the AK settles into its famous cadence: slower than an MP5, more deliberate than an M249, around ten rounds per second of pure mechanical rhythm.
Out on the open Mojave Desert range, the muzzle report rolls across the valley floor instead of slapping back at you off concrete walls. Your Range Safety Officer coaches you into short, controlled bursts (three to five rounds) and by your second burst you'll be ringing steel downrange and grinning.
